"At the end we are all just animals."

This idea lies at the heart of Malika Maria's practice. Working with moving image, installation, and sound, she explores human instinct, perception, and the relationship between people, nature, and the environments they inhabit.

Her work began with painting before evolving into installation, performance, and experimental video. In her earlier works, she often used her own body as a performative tool, exploring themes of obsession, addiction, and the darker sides of human behaviour. Over time, her practice has expanded to include questions of coexistence, the connection between human and non-human life, and the ways technology shapes our experience of the world.

Rather than following traditional narratives, Malika creates immersive audiovisual works that focus on atmosphere, rhythm, repetition, and sensory experience. She is interested in the small details that often go unnoticed and uses moving image and sound to encourage viewers to slow down and experience familiar environments from a different perspective.

Always creative from a young age, encouraged by her father, Malika studied art for eight years before graduating with a Bachelor in Fine Arts and a degree in Digital Video Production in Brussels, Belgium. She films, edits, and produces all of her own work.

Her work has been presented at exhibitions, festivals, and clubs internationally.
